ENTER TO LEARN, LEAVE TO SERVE
Red Bird Christian School
is a private PK-12 school that serves the tri-county (Bell, Clay, Leslie) region of Kentucky while also reaching out to other counties, states and countries through its Dormitory Program.

Reverend J. J. DeWall established a Mission in the Red Bird Mountains. He built several churches and mission homes in the area for people to live in. In 1922, Myra Bowman and Emeline Walsh moved to the mission and started Red Bird Christian School after learning that there were a lot of students in the mountains who didn’t have access to education. Then, in 1928, Red Bird clinic was built after Dr. Harlan Heim and Miss Lydia Rice, R. N. had been treating patients at the mission over the years.

Red Bird Christian School and the Red Bird Dormitories burnt to the ground on the Beverly campus.

Red Bird Mission and Christian School recently fought through the Covid-19 pandemic. As of 2021, all services are back up and running at Red Bird. The school is blazing a new path forward in the mountains, looking to bring the S.T.E.A.M. Program to students who may not know all of their options after high school. We are developing Christ centered leaders in the Cumberland Valley and beyond.

100 YEARS IN THE MAKING
Alumni Testimony
Gael Ibarra RBCS Dormitory Alumnus
I am eternally grateful for the Red Bird mission program. They received me in when I needed it financially but more importantly, when I needed it spiritually. I moved here when I was 12 and I can’t believe how much God has worked in my life since those days. I want to let the faculty and staff, dorm parents, roommates and missionaries that you have been a light unto my world and have shown me what the love of God feels like. All of the work being done in this place is amazing and I know God is proud of what they are doing in his name. Now that I'm older, and even though I am still a mess, I am now God’s mess and he is working in me. I know that my 12 year old is now grateful that he was sent to this place, and I am grateful to know they are leading these children to God. I love you all and hope I come back soon.
